26th Annual Nevada County Woods Riders Dual Sport Ride

The 26th Annual NCWR Dual Sport Event is officially in the books, and it was nothing short of a massive success! From the jump, registration and GPS loading went well, setting a smooth tone for an epic day on the trails. The camaraderie carried right into an outstanding tri-tip and chicken lunch, topped off by an exciting raffle packed with excellent prizes from our truly fantastic sponsors. After knocking out all 157 miles of incredible scenic dirt and pavement, riders finally returned with dusty gear, wide smiles, and endless laughs.

An event of this scale takes a massive amount of behind-the-scenes effort, and it absolutely wouldn't happen without our incredible team of volunteers who stepped up to keep everything running smoothly. A huge thank you to our dedicated crew, our sponsors, and everyone who came out to ride and make this year’s event one for the record books!

United Trails Day 2025

Today’s United Trails Day was a powerful reminder of what makes Nevada County’s trail community so special: collaboration, care, and commitment.

Whether you raked, lopped, hauled, or simply showed up with a smile, your efforts helped preserve and protect the trails we all share. Your work ensures safe, sustainable access for hikers, bikers, equestrians, and dirt bike riders alike.

United Trails Day is more than a work party - it’s a celebration of shared stewardship. It brings together groups like BONC, GCTC, NCWR, and the Tahoe National Forest to maintain multi-use trails and strengthen the bonds between user communities.

Thanks to you:

• Erosion risks were reduced
• Overgrowth was cleared
• Trail safety was improved before winter
• And lunch was well-earned!

We’re proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you in this effort. Let’s keep the momentum going - on the trail and in our community.

2025 Mason Ride

Another great "Mason Ride" this year from Grass Valley to Auburn. What a great event to give someone with physical challenges the opportunity to get out and ride with a club.

2025 Downieville Epic

Yesterday, volunteers were able to complete Pauly Creek Reroute at the 2025 Downieville Epic. This was our 3rd year working on the reroute, and it was great to finally see it completed.

Thank you to the nine NCWR members (Lance, Everett, Megan, Josh, John, Tanya, Kent, David, and myself) who braved the heat in the upper 90s, and the ride down/up Baby Head Hill (i.e., Gold Valley OHV Trail), which seems to have been a little worse for wear.

After the trail work, many stopped in a Packer Saddle to have a cool swim. After that, we were fed pulled pork sandwiches and plenty of ice-cold beverages. After dinner, the games began.

With the help of volunteers and organizations like the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, we're not only able to keep our trails open, but we're also able to expand them.

NCWR Sawyer Recertification

On Saturday, April 5th, 15 of our NCWR sawyers spent the day in Tahoe National Forrest getting recertified by the US Forest Service. This included cutting downed trees similar to what we encounter in our trail cleanup days. We also worked on "challenging" scenarios to help increase our skills and be safe while cutting downed trees. Many new tips and tricks were learned by everyone.

The recertification was led by Bill Aaron, Sawyer Extraordinaire, and 5 other Sawyer instructors with the Tahoe National Forrest. 

A huge thank you to Bill and his team for this invaluable instruction and recertification.

Sugar Pine Trail Work on February 22nd, 2025

Great day to be in the woods logging out Foresthill. We had 8 sawyers and 20 swampers.

Not sure how many tanks of gas or total tree count, but it was a bunch. Encountered a good amount of snow at about 5k feet and wasn't sure if we could punch through, but we did.

Lunch was awesome and thank you Alicia and Melissa.
